PHASE 1

Phase1_1

One unstable square (sides: 10 cm) with one stabilizing stick across the center (stick: 5 cm.). Therefore it becomes two rigid triangles.

Phase1_2

Making a new form by using the same structural principles as in Rigid structure 1

Phase1_3

One unstable square (sides: 10 cm) that becomes stabile by using triangles with out using material in the middle.

Phase1_4

model 1_3 is now mirrored so that the middle becomes an octogon made of trianges in the square.

Phase1_5

exploring the compression of the sticks.

exploring how I can use tetion, compression and the triangle.

Phase1_7

exploring how I can create an arch when the small sticks can not bend.

Phase1_8

Exploring the arch further. Trying to make the arch more stabile i wanted to exchange the sticks with triangles.

Making the triangle 3D.

Using the octogon from form 1_4 I wanted to see how i could maby use it...

To make the octogon more stabile i used the stick as compression and the thread as tension.

Phase1_12

I wanted to look at the octogon and try to make it more 3D. The form is made of two crosses, so tryed to bend only one off the crosses.

PHASE 2

Phase2_1

By putting two elements together a star appears. This strong form i like.

Phase2_2

Here i built some of the bridge to see if the element can be used in the bridge design.

Phase2_3

I like the form, but it creates some problems that both gives the form a twist but also if leaft as it is the people on the bridge will fall down. Not good...
